Ten members of 14 Platoon came together to celebrate the Anniversary of our commissioning with a lunch party at the Officers Mess in Regents Park Barracks in London.
For us all it was a memorable reunion of friends made over fifty years ago and to mark this event we enjoyed a superb lunch with excellent wines.
The stories of our time at Sandhurst flowed thick and fast and in particular we were able to celebrate the memory of our three platoon members who so sadly have died in the intervening years. We toasted them and also our absent friends, who either through incapacity or sheer travelling distance, were unable to make the occasion.
In many ways it seemed as if nothing had changed since our time together at Sandhurst and, judging by the noise and the banter, everyone thoroughly enjoyed the celebration. Our thanks to Paddy Hartigan for organising the event and for ensuring that we ate and drank in a suitably excellent fashion befitting of such an occasion.
We all agreed that it would be an excellent plan to meet again at some point in the next few years and that we should all remain in contact as we progress into our dotage! This is particularly important when considering those living abroad or struggling with poor health.
In summary an excellent reunion based on the friendships made at Sandhurst. A special bond exists as a result of our time together fifty years ago and we all enjoyed having the chance to celebrate it.
